Seek Wisdom, Elevate your Intellect and Serve Humanity

Project Summary

The STRengthening Inter-Professional Education for HIV (STRIPE HIV) Ethiopia is proposed by Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences in collaboration with Hawassa and Bahirdar Universities. Schools of Medicine (SOM) and Nursing at the College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University will coordinate the training. Ensuring ownership by the leadership – including the University President, Chief Executive Director (CED) of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), Dean of SOM, Department heads, hospital directors, and HIV clinics are also crucial. Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) focal persons, staffs of ART and PMTCT clinics, and the multidisciplinary teams within health facilities need to work in harmony, in order to maximize the outcome of the training. We plan to provide pre-service and pre-placement training, based on the training course developed by the African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) at our and the two collaborating institutions (Hawassa and Bahirdar Universities) for graduating medical and nursing students prior to their deployment. This will also create an opportunity for developing the training capacity of the collaborating institutions through additional case based interactive sessions. We will also institute a mechanism for evaluating the pre- placement training activities implemented through the proposed project.
