Universidade Eduardo Mondlane
In 2008, a partnership was formed between University Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) and University of California, San Diego (UCSD) that was expanded under the Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI). This partnership has reinvigorated training of health professionals, developed research and bioinformatic infrastructure and expanded the communities of practice with several teaching and research institutions in Africa
In order to continue to train health professionals in diagnosis, management and mitigation of HIV and comorbidities towards an AIDS free generation, the UEM proposes to implement STRIPE HIV, recognizing its capacity to improve training for the health workforce in Mozambique to ensure that the next generations of health professionals are equipped to deliver high quality of evidence-informed HIV-Care.
We propose to participate in the two levels of the STRIPE program. In Level 1, we will implement 2-day (16 hour) courses of interactive, case-based HIV management courses currently under development by AFREhealth and UCSF. In Level 2, we plan to develop a substantial body of novel, case-based educational content that will be developed in Portuguese for use in Mozambique and in English by sister AFREhealth institutions participating in the STRIPE program.
The implementation of this project will improve HIV treatment and will be a huge contribution by increasing clinical and educational capacity at the University of Eduardo Mondlane Faculty of Medicine and other affiliated institutions within the country.
